Unless you're going to install a narrowed 4 link with giant tires in the back for the 383....cuzz you'll never hook it up without one then just go with whatever engine you have. If you have access to a 305 then that would work just fine in that small truck. All depends on what you want to do with it, you'll still be able to do massive burn outs all day long with any of them.

Don't bother with the 305 if your making a drag truck. The 350 is a great engine but for the extra few hundred $ I think the 383 is worth it. Like 327 nut said, Traction is going to be your main problem. Transfer as much weight to the rear as possible. You may even want to cut the firewall to slide the engine back further. Put the battery under the rear bumper, move the gas tank behind the axel, use a fiberglass hood, ect ect.
