HELP!!! Going to upgrade need some head and cam advice

this is the parts list on my existing

engine combo, i am going to step it up a

bit due to better financial situation ....

A sbc 355 high tin orange block, speed

pro hyperetic pistons,steel crank, gm

pink rods, 9.5 compression, comp cams

xe268 kit(springs retainers dbl roller

chain pushrods...the works), 1.5

rockers, stock fuel & stock oiling, vortec

64cc heads modified to

accept the .48 lift, 1 5/8 headers long

tubes, edelbrock air-gap

vortec intake, holley 600 carb this is in a

77 nova 3300 2.73

gears stock converter... but now i have

finally graduated

college i am looking at a 68 thru 72

nova same engine same t350

but 3.73 gears, posi trak, 2200+

converter, i am wanting to get a

little more out of the engine so a cam

head swap is due


i like the comp cam xe 284 and AFR

heads but unsure about the

CFM and how high to spin the mouse up

to.... any suggestions

will be greatly appreciated

Not a bad plan. I'd want a 3000-3200 stall speed with that cam. I'd go with even more unless you;re going to do a lot of highway driving. Something like 4.56-5.13 depending on tire size. Go with a 650-750 double pumper carb.
