Help!!! have 289ci 67 mustang cant choose between buying the 3:55 gears or the 3:79

Hi, I am back. and now have my old pony out of the barn and ready to run. Thanks to all the people who gave their excellent insight about how I can become king of the stoplight grand prix. post(beefing up my 289 2v) special thanks to Max Keith and red65mustang those old boys seem to really know what they are talking about......The question I have now is should I go with the 3:55 rear end gears or the 3:79, my car is absolutely all original (289ci 119000 orig miles) (2v carb brand new old stock) (c4 trans 3 speed auto) with the orginal 8in rear end 2:80 gears, I have a guy at a shop in town who wants to sell me 3:79 gears and install, but I am concerned because max and red 65 said that my crusing speed (highway) will be very low mph at high rpm. can anyone tell me what the difference in crusing speed would be between these two gear ratios. ....I really want to get the tire spinnin *** droppin jump off the line but am not sure I want to go 30mph down the highway.........Please help????????????

There is not going to be a significant difference between those two gear ratios, maybe 2 to 300rpm at highway speed. Personally I would go with the 3:70 (never heard of a 3:79). Online there are any number of RPM calculators that will tell you what rpm you can expect at any speed based on axle ratio, trans final drive ratio and tire diameter.
