Post help!! how to put headers on 83 camaro

Hi. I have a 83 camaro that currently has a 305 in it. We plan on putting a 350 in it in a month or so. I have two questions....one......has anybody ever heard of using 305 heads with a 350 and does this really give a little bit more horsepower?....two........is there any way to put headers on a 83 camaro without have the exhaust custom made....Thank you ahead of time

I may be way out in left field here, but it has been my understanding that the only heads that will work on a 305 are 305 heads, this being the case , I don"t see how they could be used on another size engine. We will see what the other rodders have to say about it, I would like to know for sure also.

From what I know 305 heads don't work on anything but 305 and the 305 will not accept heads from any other small block. Also, not sure about putting headers on the year you've described, but on most any other year you have to the enter headers from the underside and "snake em'" upward.

Actually, 305 sbc heads will bolt on a 350 sbc, however, even though both 305 and 350 sbc engines share the same stroke (3.48), the Cylinder bore is obviously smaller on the 305, therefore the Cylinder head chamber size was designed smaller. Yes, this will increase compression but it causes other problems that are actually determental to performance. Because of the smaller chamber size, the walls of the combustion chamber tends to "shroud" the valves and does not promote good intake and exhaust flow when installed on a larger bore engine like the 350. This also causes a problem with combustion flame travel. Do the right thing and get the right 350 heads for the application you want, there are a lot out there and they are cheap! After all, if you don't have the time to do it right the first time, when will you have the time and money to do it over! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR PROJECT.

the 305 heads will fit the 350 and will increase the compression ratio but the ports are smaller as are the valves, this will increase the lowend torque and horsepower but limit the max rpms and highend hp (Probably around 4000)use the 350 heads unless your building a tow truck 305 std valves 172int 150 ex 305 h.o. valves 1.84 int 150 60cc chamber 350 std valves 194 int 150 ex 73cc chamber as for headders on a 3rd gen forget about full lenth without mods and the others, edelbrock or slp very pricey. I have a set of full lenth heddmans(brand new)they face the frame so the exhaust would have to drop 2.5 inches to clear the frame some idiot designed, in fact the whole series of 3rd and 4th generation f bodies were designed by idiots

I thought many v8 parts interchanged with other v8 parts so I assumed that when I was told about the 305 heads that it was true....yes they would work but as I am told, it isn't worth it. Thank you for replying.
