HELP- Hurst Quarter stick

I bought a used Hurst Quarter stick and I dont think that the front gear changing swivel is the right one. does anyone know the proper distance from the part that goes on the swivel for the gear selector on the C4 to the swivel on the shifter cable??? I have been told that you put the trans into low and set the cable there. or do you put it into park and set it there????
