have a '39 chev and bought a later model 6 (GM) and turbohydro to put into it. the seller didn't know what it came out of and all the codes and casting marks are not crossreferenced by google'n. please tell me where i can find a reference source for this motor. suspect it is a truck motor because it is orange, not blue... the numbers behind the distributor are F0520T TM (second line) C5F4Q1714. thanks for you guidance. mark

Do a google search for casting # locations. I don't recall ever seeing a GM casting number with any letters in it.

1 older book I have indentifies the numbers you have as the vin # and the 3'rd letter is the engine code, but the F is not in the list this book has. I'll look through some other books that I have.

Any way to post a pic; and include the side covers. Rear sump pan? Was the turbohydro attached to this engine? If the TH was, it's most likely a 250, but, if it was in a truck, there's a good possibility it could be a 292! Try the Inliners site.

The only thing I have been able to come up with is the OT at the end of the first sequence you gave, and that looks like a 1969 250 std trans out of a car. There is a TMT listed under 1970 GMC truck 250 std trans, and no TM found anywhere. I suspect it is the TM you have listed might have a T after the TM not stamped good enough to see.
