You may never find out the rebuilder, but what you are really concerned with is whether there's anything left to be rebuilt the next time. The rebuilders have absolutely no qualms about taking a crank to -0.030" on the mains and rods, nor do they shy away from 0.060"-plus overbores.

Yeah, that is a rebuilder tag alright. (Sorry, no idea whose ...)
I would expect that "Z 2730 D" would be a part number used to identify the intended application range, and the numeric number would be a unique serial number used by the reman for warranty and build records, etc. I googled that and found the same "Z 2730 D" tag with a different serial #(114468), and also found a "Z 2730 V 128375" As far as identifying manufacturer and specifications, most remanufaturers and/or engine parts suppliers will indicate, at the least, oversize or undersize information right on the part. The remanuacturer also generally stamps dimensions on the block and crank. (i.e. 030 010 010 would decode to .030 overbore, .010 undersize on the mains and rods. Pistons are also usually stamped on the dome. (eg L2377.030) Last edited by 66GMC; 01-03-2013 at 09:22 PM. |

.. A micrometer can be used to measure the diameter of the cam at base circle and max lobe lift... subtract base measurement from lobe size to get cam lift... do it for intake valve lobe and exhaust valve lobe... multiply those numbers by 1.6 to get valve lifts, which will likely give you a good idea of the cam size... those lifts prolly match up to a standard cam of some sort... and the standard cam will have known durations...
.. A rebuilder's info would only be accurate if no one had made any subsequent changes... |
