Help Identifying a Chevy Engine
Hello everyone!

Just joined the hotrodding world again after many years--bought a '59 Ford F100. I suspect I'll be around here quite a bit ;) so I'll have to upload some pics and introduce myself in the intro forum.

My question is this: It's got a Chevy small block in it (Shhhh! Don't tell the Ford guys) and I'd like to try and determine where it came from.

Here's the stamping on the front of the block:
BIG stamping: V1101FSF
smaller stamping underneath: CEJ122607

I have done some research online but I can't seem to find this combination of letters anywhere to ID it. Any ideas?

Thanks SO much for your help!!

Are you sure the numbers are V1101FSF because I can't find the suffix code FSF. They have FGF listed as a 1978-1980 305. CEJ122607 could be a crate or counter engine produced 12/26/2007. Look on the flange where the transmission bolts to for some more casting numbers. Look for a 6-8 digit number on the passenger side. Also look for a casting date on the driver's side. It will be a letter followed by three numbers.

Yeah, I double-checked after not finding that suffix as well. And the FSF is clear as day! haha!

I'm going to check the other locations you mentioned to see if I can get a few more clues.

The casting number on the bellhousing flange may be a little hard to see. Get yourself a mechanic's mirror (telescoping) and a strong flashlight. Shine the light on the number, not the mirror.

Ok, I finally got back to wherre I could see the other stampings...

On the DRIVER side: 14010207
On the PASSENGER side is a weird stamping. It looks like 492, but I can't make out any letters. Also the 9 in the center looks like it's superscript (raised) with a line under it?

Thanks again for the help of anyone who knows!

'80-'85 350 truck block with 4-bolt main caps

Mortec has it as a 1980-'85 350 sbc, 2- or 4-bolt.
