Help me ID Drums

Can anyone out there help me? I have done a short search, and can not find an answer.

I was told that in the late 70’s or early 80’s Chevrolet installed drum brakes with aluminum drums on some Chevelles or Malibus. Anyone know what years? I did see a drum in a salvage yard marked “78 Chevelle” so I am pretty sure about this.

I had a 79 El Camino
It came with the aluminum drums........they wore quickly...( iron liners in the drums)

I got a set of regular drums to replace them....It felt like it stopped better.......? ? maybe JUST IN my mind....?

The city where I live had a bunch of 78 -79 Malibu Police cars.....the head of the auto maintenance shop is a buddy. He said they had trouble with them too.....

Disclaimer : I pulled a car trailer with my El Camino and we all know how rough the cops it may have been rough service that made them give trouble
