The rocker arm studs may be pulling out of the head. It used to happen a lot in the past. The only cure is to pull the heads and either pin the studs or drill and tap the heads for threaded studs. Both are best left to a compentant machine shop. Better than a flat cam unless you want a bigger camshaft.

Hello;
Well, your cam could be going flat...but, you maybe have some heavy duty valve springs and the rocker arm studs that are pressed in are coming out. Had the problem on my 64-GTO 389 ... when I decked the block I had screw in rocker studs installed and all was well. My fix for a little while was to knock them back in with a hammer! Not recommended! Regards, VanAgain350 |

I would check to make sure the nuts are not backing off. Several years ago I had the same problem after some head work. I found if you install the nuts back on the same studs you come out ok but if you put the nuts on different studs they seem to come loose. Try new nuts.
