Are the plugs oily or are they gas covered? If they are oliy , you should have lots of blue smoke coming out the exhaust, if the exhaust is black and you smell gas, then the motor is running way to rich. You need to check out the carb and see how its jetted. Sounds like the jets are way too big. I would also check the spark to each plug to see how hot each one is.

I agree with sunsetdart. It sounds like a carb problem and its dumping way too much gas in the engine. Had that happen once a long time ago on a big block Vette after it sat for a month or so in the Florida heat without being started. One of the internal gaskets in the carb dried out and cracked and it just flooded the engine with gas. It acted exactly the same way as your Roadrunner. Rebuilt the carb and that cured the problem.

Look down the carb after you have ran it.(NOT RUNNING)Look to see if the carb is dripping into the motor after it has ran.If so,like Centerline has told you rebuild your carb..
