Help with new dvd drive in the compy
The dvd drive (it just plays dvds, cds, etc, no writing) I got in the mail yesterday I installed and it works great. Except I have no dvd decoder.
The drive came with InterActual player on it, which is a dvd player, but it has this error message saying that I need a decoder. Is there one that I can download for free that's legal and has no viruses/trojans/spyware? Thanks, matt |

Windows Media player DVD codec download page.
I use PowerDVD myself, the download link for it is on the same page above.

Real Alternative has a DVD codec. It uses a stripped down version of the old windows media player, plus real audio codecs. Free and has the added benifit of replacing real media player.
Download here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm |

Hmm, I've heard of overclocking your CPU, but never a video card! How does that work? I used to know what was what with computers, now I'm lost completely.
I quit trying to keep up when people started installing liquid cooling systems, overclocking to extremes and putting blue neon lights in thier cases. I know one guy who collects AMD stickers and has them all over the place. Reminded me too much of the ricers I guess, especially the neon lights and bragging over the size of heatsinks or some such thing. (No offense intended). I've got a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop, so no hotrodding options on that, it's got 128MB Radeon 9600 Pro video card, and 2GB RAM, its a 1.7Ghz Pentium M, and it does everything I need it to do like yesterday... plenty fast enough for me. Good luck with the DVD's! I have a DVD rewriter but have never been able to get it to write anything. Rich |

I have the blue neon lights since I couldn't find any normal ones, but they were a cheep ebay find and cast a soothing glow. I'm not into the water cooled things, but a bit of extra pep helps. The AMD stickers all over is kinda cheesy, and with the software that came with my video card in the advanced of the advanced options you can de-select an option that allows manual overclocking. They also have certain programs you can download off the internet for this sometimes. |
