help with oil dipstick

I need to install the new dipstick I got for my SBC. The old one pulled out and the new one is much tighter in the hole. Any suggestions or home made tools for the install. Its a chrome dipstick for early sbc and I dont want to beat the crap out of it.

Well if it's the curved type that has the chrome tube that fits into the block and then the dip stick slides down into it.....then its a TIGHT FIT. These items are not so to speak "CNC" machined. You may have to stick it in a vise and using some sand paper or emery cloth take a "few thousands" off of it. You will probably have to use a close fitting open or closed end wrench around it and then TAP it in...it's a file and fit type of deal.

DON'T do like a guy I once knew did...he drilled out the hole in the block!!! He was advised by another freind "are you nuts!!" After he dropped the pan and cleaned out all the metal shavings he was asking himself the same question.
