Help with painting

Anyone ever use Eastwood, paintforcars, or Kirker paint products? I am going to attemp on painting my sons 1985 chevy short bed. He wants to paint it metallic silver or gray. Does anyone know how the single stage paints hold up, or should we use the base coat / clear coat? Also, any pics would be great. Thanks

You paint selection is a combination of factors, will the car be garaged and out of the elements most of the time?, if so about any singlestage product will work well. Will it have to live outside all of the time, then a singlestage product will experience the same fate of dullling and needing polishing and waxing to keep up the finish. Clearcoats will do better if outside all the time. I think the amount of money you spend on paint should be relative to the value of the car, spend 10G on a 100 grand car, spend 450 on a 5000 dollar car.

I would go with the kirker or go to SPI for primers and clears..Scrub with Dawn dishwashing soap and scrubbers then w&g remover and then sand with 80 grit..then prime an go base clear as this is the easier way in my opinion..once the primer is on then do your blocking and filling steps followed by a coat of primer sealer..sand with a 320/400 and then base coat followed by the clear..This is the time tested general procedure for paint..

Good luck
I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..
