Hi,

Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove this plug from my rear end: 10 bolt 8.5 in? 1986 Chevy K10 4X4

I've sprayed on some penetrating oil, tapped it some with a 3/8 extension, tried to wrench it loose with the ratchet. I'm thinking of trying a small pipe wrench on it since it sticks out about 1/4 inch. i can always get a new plug to put in once its out.

also, is heat a bad idea here?
and FYI i don't have access to a welder, wish i did though

Thank you for all of the suggestions!

With heat, do i need to worry about the residual oil inside of the differential catching fire (the cover is still on and about 1 inch of oil is still at the bottom, I only changed a leaky seal on the pinion), or the penetrating oil on the exterior? What about flammable fumes developing inside too?

Just trying to be as safe as possible
