Help with setting timing Big Block Chevy

I have a 454 Big Block Chevy with a mild street cam, headers,intake,MSD 6AL and a MSD distributor and stall converter etc... Since this is different that stock what should I set the timing at ? Better yet what steps are involved to set the timing ?

The best way is to set by useing total timing,all in by 3000 RPM.A good ballpark figure is between 36-38 BTDC total timing.You will need a marked balancer,a timing tape or a dial back timing light.Dont worry too much about initial timing,this doesent matter a whole lot with a performance build.Un hook the vaccuum advance when you do this,
