help with stewart warner wings series 3 3/8 tachometer

I recently bought a 29 ford the ignition was switched to msd 6al with a tach adapter ... but the tach wasn't working... after a little research found that the tach adapter was not needed and that it was wired incorrectly for the new ignition... rewired with out the tach adapter now the tach works but is sluggish as if it was a fluid filled guage... I noticed there are 4 dip switches in the back does anyone know what the setting should be on these switches or what could cause the tach to act slow?

thanks
simon

The switches are usually used to set it for 4/6/8 cylinders.
