Help! There's a squirrel in my car

I'm pretty sure the squirrel is gone now. I've cleaned out the car as much as I can (even took out the blower motor and cleaned that area out too) but how do I get rid of the smell?

Short of nice fire, I mean.

I can't remember where I heard it from but this works for me, I just put a sheet of fabric softener under the seat for a few days. I dont have to scrub or nothing just leave it over night and should help the smell some.

what does it smell like?

I would buy some upholstery/carpet cleaner and clean the interior.

The smell is coming through the vents when I use the AC or heat. It smells like a pulp mill or wet cardboard. Its kind of a mouldy smell.

I wonder if anyone makes a spray that you can spray into the vents to kill mould (I think the Ford Escorts and Taurus' have had this problem from time to time). Any suggestions?

Hi,
There is a product named Ultrashield which is used to eliminate odors caused by mold in A/C systems. I stock it at our NAPA store in 2 fragrances ... baby powder is one of them, and I think spearmint is the other.

Make sure that you have cleaned up whatever the source of the odor is as well.

There is another product called Evap-Clean that is made by Cliplight. It apparently completely removes the mold on the evaporator, and restores it's cooling efficiency.

One more thing. Many small rodents etc (I'm not sure if this includes squirrels) can carry hantavirus. If you're in there cleaning things out, I suggest using a dust mask and latex gloves as protection.

HTH,
Don

I took the cowling covers off and cleaned out the nest that I found there (Using gloves, etc). Then I sprayed the area with 50/50 bleach and water. I took the blower motor out and cleaned the impeller blade. I think I got it all. Thanks for the help. I'm going to check out the spray from NAPA tomorrow.

For interest sake, the spray from NAPA (Ultrashield) worked very well. Within 24 hrs there was very little odor left. The website indicates it takes about 72 hours.
