HELP!!! Vin location?????

I just got this 55 Chevy 2nd series pickup, and can't find a vin number!

I've checked the firewall, the door frames (both sides), the steering column, inside the glove box. Does anybody have any ideas? I don't think it's been removed, I can't see any holes that look suspicious. Would really like to start tackling this, but don't want to spend time or money if I can't get it titled!
I've heard that there were numbers on the frame, anybody know where?

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Should have been on the firewall and would've started with a 5, you can probably find it on the top of the frame rail near the steering box., you'll need a good wire brush and some chalk to rub on it and the numbers should come up. If you have the original engine(doubtful) the vin should be the same as the engine # You local DMV may be able to help you as well.

Thanks Jalopy45, I've scraped, washed, and wire brushed the frame from the front cross member to as far back as the cab will let me, on both sides, and nothing. Absolutely nothing on the firewall either. Am kinda reluctant to go to the DMV, with no VIN numbers, Kind like asking for trouble ain't it?

Surely somebody knows where they stashed the numbers. Any of you "Seasoned veterans" out there know?

Thanks

MF

The one on the 57 truck is in the drivers side door jamb up by the windshield.
You can see it here, the shiny tag by the windshield:

Of course that's 57 and 55 could be different but they are the same body style.

My 55 2nd series has the same tag on the driver's side. There is another tag on the firewall. If your tags are missing, that could be an indication of foul play. I sure hope not.

The DMV usually have a list of places where the VIN is located and may give you the information, they may also be able to tell you how to get a title for your truck as an abandoned vehicle or rebuilt. The body looked farly decent in the pix so I wouldn't give up hope yet. Check Hemmings Motor News for titles and plates, I bought one from a guy in Massachusetts and used it at my local DMV with no problems .

on early vettes of that period, and other chevys the VIN is stamped on the top of the frame where the drivers door is. good luck, you may have to pull the body and wire brush the frame to get the VIN...

Thanks techron, I have heard the frame under the cab, but didn't want to pull the cab to check!!! Maybe a mirror, wire brush, and some elbow grease? I'll try this weekend, and report back on my findings, or lack therof!!

Thanks Guys!
MF
