Well I have to say...YES...it is possible. But why? Chevy offers so many great motors that can be had for the same price or a lot less than a hemi. If you really want something different try going with a different induction system and show it off. i.e. fuel injection , blower, nitrous, etc. I am sure you or someone else on this board could come up with something that would make people ooh and aaw.

this is my rule of thumb for what make of engine can go in what.
1920's-1940's ford - ford, chevy or mopar(hemi) 1949-1959 ford - ford or chevy 1960 to present ford - only a ford engine. 1920's-1957 chevy - chevy or mopar(hemi) 1958 to present chevy - only a chevy 1920's-1940's dodge - chevy or mopar 1950's to present dodge - only a mopar some may agree some may disagree, its just what i feel is right. there are a few other engines such as buicks and caddies that will suit hotrods and such. hot rods and street rods can have various makes of engines, anything from the muscle car era needs to stay with its heritage or else it just isnt right. the cars from that era were build to be fast. it was an era of engine development and each company did it their own unique way, its only right to keep a chevy in a chevy, a ford in a ford and so on. it would just be so horribly wrong!!!! Well, you little Chevy weiners (whiners?) once these type of questions get asked it's usually the cost of the Hemi that throws the whole idea out the window.
Nice Camaro body- $10,000 Nice Hemi engine- $20,000 and up. Toss the Camaro body, and grab yourself a Cuda body. I mean, you'll wanna pick up some CHICKS if you spend that kind of cake, RIGHT???!?! Where does the CAMARO come in? LOL! |

I'm confused...he has an Elephant, but can't afford a Rat??
In weight alone the 426 Hemi is around 800 lbs while the Rat is less than 700 lbs. Here's a link with some comparative dimensions. http://www.westechperformance.com/p...dimensions.html The Hemi is a center sump, so unless you go dry sump oiling, figure on a 6" cowl hood just to cover the valve covers. Chrysler shoehorned the Hemi into their "smaller" cars, but Mopar engine bays are very open and the inner fenders are a lot more vertical. You'd probably have the only one around, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. |

Yeah, I'm no purist, although I kind of agree with Super Chevy's manifesto above. Once upon a time I even had a 67 Chevy shortbed truck with a 472 Caddy mill.
The only way I'd put a Hemi in a Camaro would be if it was a tube frame car, and you could set it back to account for the extra weight. Other than that, it would scare me. Heck, I wouldn't even be thrilled with 400+ HP in an otherwise stock Camaro. I can't imagine the ZL1 cars didn't cause residue to be deposited in the old Jockeys. Guess I'm getting old (at 34)! |

You guys are funny....especially you, badknuckles. I didn't know someone came out with Hemi heads for chevys. Is this not popular?
So far there has been a lot of negative posts on this topic. Why? You mean to tell me that if you saw a 69 Camaro with a 426 hemi in it at your local parking lot show, you guys would bad mouth it and walk away or be curious as to how someone was able to shoe horn one in? Well, since I am a fan of all muscle cars and not partial to just one, I would give props to anybody that would go the diffrent route. |
