Her name was Anne and I'll be damned...

This thread is probably something us Cannucks will be more aware about...

I'm just curious about how many of you like Gordon Lightfoot, and what everybody thinks of his music. Personally, I really like his music. As much as I like it though, I've recently heard a song of his that I have never heard before (I'm only 25yrs old, so I wasn't too surprised by that) called "Carefree Highway". If you've heard it before, what's your opinion on it?

For the Americans out there, what do you guys think of his music?

Note: Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian Folk Music singer, best known for the song "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", and probably also for "If You could Read My Mind".

What's the song that talks about sitting on his back porch? Thats a good one too. I really like the Edmund Fitzgerald song. There is a museum in Sault St. Marie that has half a life boat from that ship. One of the only artifacts ever found.

Here is a good website that list a lot of his songs. Brings back some memories. http://www.corfid.com/
http://www.repriserec.com/gordonlightfoot/

lyrics ro Carefree Highway

Carefree Highway (Sundown) 3:45

Pickin' up the pieces of my sweet shattered dream
I wonder how the old folks are tonight
Her name was Ann and I'll be damned if I recall her face
She left me not knowin' what to do
Carefree highway, let me slip away on you
Carefree highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you

Turnin' back the pages to the times I love best
I wonder if she'll ever do the same
Now the thing that I call livin' is just bein' satisfied
With knowin' I got no one left to blame

Carefree highway, got ta see you my old flame
Carefree highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you

Searchin' through the fragments of my dream-shattered sleep
I wonder if the years have closed her mind
I guess it must be wanderlust or tryin' to get free
From the good old faithful feelin' we once knew

Carefree highway, let me slip away on you
Carefree highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you
Let me slip away on you
Carefree highway, got ta see you my old flame
Carefree highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you

Kevin

Yup Gordon Lightfoot is one of the Canadian greats that's for sure
When I was a kid i loved "Sundown " and the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I met Gordon Lightfoot.. His nieces Julie and Gail Lightfoot went to school with me .. I met him at one of their family reunions.. Julie knew how much i adored him so I was fortunate enough to spend a few hours underneath a tree and listen to him play .. What a writer .. with a voice of an angel !

Wow.. that just took me back waaaaay to many years.. Feeling old now ..

Ahhhh, S.S.M., MI, I thought you were talking about S.S.M., ON. None the the less it's only a 15min. drive over the bridge to get into the U.S. from there.

That's pretty cool that you found the lyrics to that song Kevin, if anyone would like to hear the song, just PM me and I'll send it via e-mail.

It's really cool to see how many Americans love his music.

Hey Pup, I envy you for having had the opportunity to meet him, that's pretty freakin' cool

Sundown that was the song I was trying to think of. That song has such an awsome feel to it.

Yeah "Sundown" is another pretty good song, one of them "Feel good" songs, listening to it right now actually...

His music makes for good highway triving tunes. One of my favorite highway driving tunes is "Turn the page" by Bob Seger.

Yup. I love his music.

I have seen him live 3 times, though that was a few years ago.
