Here Iam!!!! and looking for guidance!

My name is Keven, I am a middle school Industrial Technology (read: old time Industrial Arts!) teacher. I really like AL casting and metal fab, but I am also into woodworking too. I have many of the old time metal shaping tools in my shop at school, but alas was not that interested in High School so never learned how to use them so am trying to figure it out now.

I have two vehicles I am presently working on. One is a '49 Chevy Fleetline 4 door, it's in pretty good shape and runs but is too scary to take on the highway, I did make one trip to MSRA's Back to the 50"s a couple years ago and it was not fun. All the uppies honked and swore at me. I resolved to get disc brakes and reliable power so I can ignore them, first project. My long term project is my '49 Suburban. It really needs work, but will be on the road some day. I'm a straight six fan so I'm looking for information on that motor. I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experience with upgrading to disc brakes without going to M2 crossmenmber (stock spindles etc)

I'm in the frozen North and do not have a heated garage so my work time is limited.
