Heres a little challenge

Ok, I know I've asked some silly questions before but this is a good one. One of my firefighters has a '65 GMC 1/2 ton PU. This thing has got a huge V-6 in it and we don't know what it is. The ID# from the front of the block is 305E512659. This is the strangest motor any of us has seen. Its got a Stromburg 1 barrel. The plugs are inside the intake valley area, the intake is, well its in two parts I guess. Theres a water crossover in the front by itself then the rest of the intake behind it thats seperate. The fuel pump is up on the top side of the water pump area. Oddest thing any of us has ever seen. He swears its the stock motor but we don't know. Can anybody tell us anything abut this motor??

Thanks folks

David

I think I spoke to early. We did a bunch of searching and found it. They came in 1/2 and 3/4 ton and other trucks in the early '60's to early '70's.

Thanks

Pretty standard engine of the time (although I guess I never realized it was a one barrel), I think they were even 60 degree V to make it run smoother.

Old odd fire V6... basicly a boat anchor... Wont sound like its running right even when it is... Most had V8 caps on the distributor also but have funky contacts in them...

Used to drive on of those in high school delivering auto parts. Engine was a real screamer with low gears and a 4 speed granny.

Well we did find out it is a 305 V-6. Won't do over 65 on the inerstate, does sound funky when its running almost like it has a constant miss in it. But still one of the oddest engine all six of us here has ever seen.

Thanks folks .
