HF 5798 winch repair/ improvement

I bought the HF 5798 winch for my crane project, and it needs some work to make it good enough for me.. I would buy a better winch, but I havn't found a 40:1 2k lbs worm gear winch made by a diffrent company.. It has a spot where it just about jams up. I took it apart and found the bushing is pretty laughable. It looks like a peice of cast pot metal, 1/2" inside diamater and 9/16" or so outside diamater, but the inside diamater of the big gear/ drum is 3/4", so it is very sloppy.. I have found bronze bushings with a 1/2" ID and 3/4" OD, but there only 3/4" long, and I need 5 3/4".. I went to napa and thought the machinist could make a bushing, but as it turns out he does not have a lathe as he only does engine machining.

What should I do to make this work?

Try McMaster Carr on the web as they have some longer bushings and you can stack the bushings end to end on a shaft if you need a longer bushing..

Thanks.. I knew about Mcmaster Carr but for some reason searching there site didn't cross my mind.. P/N 6381k3 looks right. it's 3" but I'll just dbl them up and cut off the extra on the 1 side.. I did the measurements with a tape measure, so I'll mic it before ordering

here is another question I was thinking about.. The winch is rated at 2,000lbs on the first round around the spool. But should I really worry about that rating and cut/ resolder the end of the cable to the correct length which would be 18'? as figured, the winch will be about 4' up the 8' post on my hoist, the boom will be 6' and being 8' high. I have a 25' cable and it will pass thru 2 snag block pully's
