High Volume/Pressure Oil Pump Question...

Hi I have a 340 chrysler motor with low oil pressure and ticking lifters. at idle im seeing around 7psi when hot. i would like to add a new oil pump to temporarily solve this problem while i slowly build another motor. i read some posts stating that a high volume melling pump with hardened shaft will be good for low and high rpms.

What I am confused about is will I need a deeper pan and more oil with a high volume pump? Or can I just bolt on a high volume pump with a hardened shaft?

Also, would get rid of noisy lifters?

My experience with the high volumn/high pressure pumps with a stock pan is fine. If you were spinning obsenely high rpms for long periods of time, you might benefit from a bigger pan.

On the lifters, since the 340 has rail mounted rockers, adjustment is not an option, atleast as far as I know. Maybe it's just worn out? Or maybe the extra pressure will help some.
