hmmm, new project idea -buick regal - 455 w/ turbo t-type clone ?

so a few weeks ago i was watching the string of car-rebuilding shows (cept pimp my ride - blah) and the one w/ the 2 twins where 2 teams build identical cars and then drag race them for pink slips

well the episode i cought this time they hade a pair of GN's / T-types on and i had a flash back to seeing an entire car transporter FULL of black GN's and t-types when i was just a wee boy

so now i have my next project in mind, and im surprised that i havent been able to find anyone whos done this yet. this idea was further bolstered at one of the local cruise nights this week ... full drag regal in bright yellow ... i was one of the few that showed any interest in it, to many people thought it was a monte carlo, lol

the plan:

nicely optioned pre 87 Regal in good shape
swap in a buick 455
add turbocharger
fab teh intake setup to look similar to the ttype
keep teh engine compartment looking factory fresh
badge it as a t-type
update the interior real nice
4 link and full drag roll cage
drag chute
Minitub it
one off set of 18" wheels in this style :

when done ... proceed to rape all the imports like vikings in a convent

what do u guys think ? hot idea ?

I wouldn't even bother with the 455. A T-Type regal with a 4.1 shortblock, ported turbo heads, TE-44 turbo, and a front mount intercooler will flat stomp just about anything used as a daily driver. It can be used as a daily car. That's the beauty of it.

well i wouldnt be starting with a real t-type .... id feel bad about beating the living hell out of something wirth so much cash

on the other hand, id have no remorse over turning a plane jane regal into a pretzle in a quest for 11 second 1/4 miles

a properly geared 6 speed tranny would keep it reasonably driveable, and thats all it would need to be 2nd to 6th skip shifts would be effortless w/ the tq it would have even w/p boost

and if done right, id have no problem telling 99% of the car people in the area that its a modded ttype w/ a t-70

By the same token a 455 built to 1970 Stage 1 specs in that light a car will do the same thing without the turbo. But with the Turbo........ I say go for it.

I've seen 455 powered GN clones before. They do move like a raped ape, but a full out Turbo 3.8L still beats the big block. If you are hell bent on the 455 instead of the v6 turbo, I'd just pick up a plain jane regal for $500 and then do whatever. Even the older less desirable regal T-types are becoming expensive.
