HobbyAir Setup

Hello All,

I'm slowly acquiring tools prior to beginning paint and bodywork next year, and one of the items on my list is a fresh air supply setup (probably one of the HobbyAir units). My questions are:

1. Which mask style do you guys prefer - half mask, full face mask, or hood?
I'm actually leaning toward hood as I need full head coverage for ISO's anyway, but I'm concerned about visibility, bulk, etc.

2. I will be painting in my 2 car attached garaged (usual layers of plastic, box fans, A/C filters, no water heater in garage, etc.). How far away (which will determine the hose length) do these units actally need to be from the "booth" especaily as my booth is venting everything to the great outdoors where the fresh air unit will be!

Thanks,

Chris

I have a hood and like it, no head sock to wear and I also have glasses and a full beard, both of which make anything else hard to use right. As long as your air unit is "upwind" of your booth exhaust you should be fine, just depends on which way the wind is blowing that day!

Id get a full mask over a half mask for painting.
ISO's still can get in your system throu your eyes.
As for the hood it depends. The 3M system hood is a joke or was at one point. When you turned your head the hood stayed put now blocking your view. It was a really PITA to use. But maybe the hobbyair unit is different.
Personally I dont see a problem with a full face mask...Eric

The hobbyair hood has a internal frame that that hood mounts to, it is an adjustable hat band rig like what is on a clear face shield you'd use for grinding. With that the hood moves with your head so you are always looking through the lens.
