Hog ring pliers
I'm replacing the seat upolstery in my 63 Dodge and I need a hog ring pliers. I hate to buy some piece of junk. Any suggestions from someone that has been there. Thanks!

Good tools aren't cheap. I use hog ring pliers made by C.S. Osborne. The ones I use are like the model 8505 ones here: Pliers - Osborne Hog Ring, Air Equipment, Upholstery Tools, Pliers - 3 Prong Clip, Pliers - Osborne Hog Ring from Rochford Supply - Your Online Textile and Upholstery Superstore! That is just a personal preference, use whichever ones you like best. The rubber bands hold the hog ring in the pliers.

The quality of rubber bands being what they are today caused me to use a piece of bicycle inner tube on mine, but it won't be long before inner tubes become inferior too.

The hog ring pliers should last a couple of life times.

But my rubber bands are U.S. Government rubber bands (I got them from the Post Office next door to my shop) so you know they are the most expensive and overly engineered rubber bands on the planet.

farm store
The ones they sell in the farm store aren't that good , but they were made to put a ring in a little pig's nose so they wouldn't root a hole under the fence, My upholstery ones are a better finish and won't snag the fabric.

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering about those farm supply pliers. Dan, those prices don't seem so bad to me if you get quality tools. My next question is straight or bent pliers?

Some people like the straight ones, but I like the bent ones. It's a matter of personal preference. They will both do the job just as well.

i've used the farm store pliers for years, work fine and i think i paid $3 for them 30 yrs ago.
i've recovered 10 seats in those 30 years and probably loaned then out for 10 more seat jobs.
they are not the quality i would want to use on a daily basis
