hole in hood -- w/ or without hinge springs?

hi i got a 1960 chevy sedan delivery. i just pulled out the 454 and installed a 327 w/ wieand supercharger. i plan to cut a hool in the hood but i dont think there will be much support in the rear of the hood where the hole is to be cut. i can just imagine the hood flexing from left to right when attempting to close it. so...im thinking about removing the stock hood hinge springs , and im thinking his might work. anybody been there, done that?? whats your opinion?? thaks!

If cutting the hole will take out the cross brace in the rear, can you weld a stiffener rod across to maintain stability? Keeping the springs is a plus.

find a way to support the center still, make a brace around the hole?

if not, then maybe use some softer springs from a car with a lighter hood?
