holley 600 carb rebuild

i got a holley 600cfm carb for nothing and want to try it in place of my edelbrock 600cfm. i don't know much about holley carbs and looking at it it looks pretty simple. i put it on and it would rev real slow and it just didn't run good. i have a performer intake and might need the adapter to make it seal better. do you think it wouldn't rev good because of a vacume leak or blown powervalve?

also, the accelerator pumps were working. and how bo you check the powervalve and replace it? thx.

one more thing, do you think the milage will increase from going to the vacume secondaries?

Your Holley carb probably is not jetted correctly for your application, to check the power valve, pull the bowls and the next plate (metering plate). then take a large wrench and remove the power valve, then on the diaphram side apply vacuum(us old geezers just suck on em, taste terrible) if the plunger moves up and closes the hole the power valve is ok!

Did something similar to my 21 year old son 2 days ago. I was checking my transmission fluid, I could see the stick was dry, but he couldn't. I looked at it, then ran my tongue down to the end and said, "Yep!, its down a quart!".. Thought he was going to puke! LOL
