Holley carb gasket
I have a older 4150 Holley mounted on a square bore intake. Carb had a square gasket with a thin 4 hole spacer,with another square gasket. Car ran good. I replaced carb gaskets with this time just a square gasket. Now, why the 4 hole spacer? Too thin to be an insulator. It's the same size as the gaskets. Could it be to help atomize the fuel? I think the engine ran the same,if any difference, not much, with or without the thin spacer. Now, if I put that thin spacer back on, should I now use four hole gaskets instead of the square hole gaskets with my square bore intake? I was concerned about a transfer slot on the bottom of carb that runs between main and secondary venturis. A four hole gasket would cover up that slot, although the thin spacer was anyway. Any thoughts on this?
Vetteman, How thin is thin? I have a Corvette/Camaro LT-1 intake on my Chevelle's small block and I have a Moroso 4 hole phenolic spacer there for heat insulation and it is an inch thick. That helps add plenum volume. The 4 holes help with velocity. A more open one helps better with mid to upper rpms. If the car isn't run hard then a 1/4" thick "spacer" isn't gonna help much. It is most likely there for heat reasons. GM also made a heat plate for the Z-28 in the late 60s. Just get that and it'll keep the fuel bowls cooler.
