Holley carb idle problems

I just purchased a 57 Chevy Bel Air with 350 4 bolt main with a four speed transmission. It has a 750 double pumper holly carburetor. The engine will not idle at stop signs. You must keep revving the idle up. I've been told that this carburetor is junk. You can not adjusted it. Can anybody give me a heads up on a good street performer carburetor for this engine. The distributors also an older points style distributor. Possibly out of the old engine.

The most wrong with the carb is it is infected with dirt or the gaskets re dried out and shrunk.
All it needs is a rebuild. (clean and new gaskets).. Get a fuel filter. Look for and eliminate all vacuum leaks.
Possible-probable blown power valve

Get a HEI distributor. Points went out with the dinosaurs. Get with the new millennium.

If its got a cam in it a stock distributor curve will not work.
The stock curve will need to be modified. its not that hard to do.

What cam is in this motor? you don't need a new carb.
Just new friends with better advice.

carb

Thanks for all the advice on is carbureted idle problems. I don't know much about the car. I bought the car to a car lot dealing with classic cars most likely lock to be auctioned. They couldn't tell me much about the previous owner so I have no idea what kind camshaft it has possibly it has an RV cam. I'm going to take your advice However and put the new distributor on.. I know that the old one is very outdated. I have not made my mind up to replace or try to rebuild carb. Time is something I don't have a lot of. The car has headers but the exhaust system is rusted out. It also has old glass packs for mufflers.

follow fb for basic tuning and good luck with your new car.You cannot replace the points system fast enough. 750 is the correct size carb.
