Holley Carb Question
For some unknown there is no fuel coming out of the (as you are seated in the vehicle) right primary booster venturi. And, the left appears to be dripping fuel down into the body when you rev the engine.
It's a 9834-3 Holley 4 bbl carb that has been running just great. Ran my best time ever in the 1/4 mile a couple of weeks ago and think it can do better. It's not a drag vehicle, it's a show vehicle that I run occasionaly. The only thing I did immediately prior to this problem was change the primary jets, something I've done many times over the years without a problem. In hopes of correcting the problem I took the carb off cleaned all passages, including the ones in the metering block, no change. Installed a rebuild kit, no change. Screamed bad words and threw tools, no change. Vehicle ran the best it ever has before this, I can't see how changing the jets could have created his problem. What's your best guess as to the problem? Thanks in advance for your help. Report this post to a |

re: Holley Carb Question
I know you said you put in a new carburetor kit and all of the other things you've checked, but it sounds like either the float level is to high, needle and seat is stuck or to much fuel pressure. The other thing to check is the gasket under the center squirter...if it's been damaged or not installed correctly, fuel could be coming out there under pressure.
As far as no fuel coming out of the right primary booster venturi, sounds like crud is blocking an oriface. The crud is usually the culprit in many "sudden" problems when you open the carburetor up to do something minor. Let us know what you find to be the problem so it can be added to our knowledge base of "what the heck did I do?" Last edited by hotwheels55 : 08-31-2003 at 04:37 PM. |

re: Holley Carb Question
Appears it was the needle & seat causing the problem. Something must have gotten into it when I replaced the jets. I didn't replace the needle & seat during the rebuild cause I didn't think it needed it. Possibly the next time I'll do a little less thinking

re: Holley Carb Question
It seems funny how the one booster is dripping fuel while the other isn't delivering fuel at all.
I'd try cleaning the air bleads out with compressed air and see if that helps,if after cleaning the bleads, both boosters drip fuel then readjust the float level and see it works then. To clean the air bleads force air up from the lower end of the passage up through the blead and see if anything other than gas comes out.You may have picked up a chunk of dirt while you were working on the carb,or dislodged dirt that has been in there for some time. Good luck !!! |
