Holley carb questions.

The carb in question is a Holley 8007 390cfm. I got this used and outside of missing the electric choke, which I replaced with the manual conversion, it appears as if it were used for a very short time. I've rebuilt it using the Holley kit.

Now the questions:

1st question: How critical is the leveling a Holley carb? The my Holley is slightly higher in the front than the rear and even though I have the rear float bowl float set slightly lower than the front, it seems to still drip ever so lightly from the booster on the side of the needle.

2nd question: Do inclines affect the fuel levels in the bowls as you are driving up or down them? My driveway isn't real steep, but does have a 20 degree incline proceeded by a ramped curb. Would this be why I see the fuel in the secondary?

3rd question: How sensitive to heat from the engine are the float bowls? I've read a couple posts about heat shields. I've got material that I can fabricate a shield if that would help with the 1st question.

Thanks for the help.

Holley 390 only require no more then 4.5 psi of fuel. Go above it and the float valve will be forced open. you may have to replace the needle/seat assy. that can handle higher Fuel pressure. I'm using two Holley 390's on my Tunnel ram setup.

I have a fuel pressure regulator and it's set at 4.5 psi.

Sitting on level ground, I started the engine and warmed it up to do some other things.

After shutting it off and checking it a little bit later, I see the booster in the secondary has some residual fuel around it, but also see fuel around the top of the vent. Not much, but it's there.

The primary bores have a lot as well as fuel around the front vent also.

I am confused.

Edited to add:

It just dawned on me that I have a nice digital infrared thermometer and then checked the temp of the float bowls.

Front was about 112 and the rear was at 118 give or take a few degrees. The engine has been off with the hood open for at least 20 minutes, so that kind of tells me that I probably have a percolating issue and need an insulator.

Try to adjust the float at lower level. Heat shield is not bad idea.
