Holley float adjustment

I was wondering,if U have an electric fuel pump, can U adjust a holley float with just the pump on and the engine not running? There is no fuel in it yet If I take the site plugs out and turn the pump on can I make the adjustment without the engine running?

Yes you can. I'd first suggest lowering them a turn or two before starting up the pump, just in case.

re: Holley float adjustment

You actually do need to have the engine running to adjust the floats properly if you're going by the sites on the side of the carburetor.

If your float get too high, there is no way to lower the level since there is no fuel flowing through the carburetor. Plus the pressure inside of the carburetor is different static to running which can vary your float level.

It won't be the same... It might be OK for a starting point, but you'll still need to adjust it.

as jmark said lower the float level before you start, remove the plug and adjust the level. the float level shuts the needle and seat. weather fuel is flowing thru, the float level controls when to stop fuel flow. start the engine and see if the level changed. which i doubt very much.

Thank you!!! Atleast one other person has apparently had one too many engine fires from trying to set the floats with it running!!!
