holley one barrel

there may be people less handy than me but I've never actually met one. Just had a local guy rebuild holley one barrel on my 55 ford.Seems to run fine, still hard to start but... when I shut it down the float bowl fills right to the top (has glass cover)- which is why I took it to him and I see bubbles coming up. Should I go find another carb guy? Anthing specific I can ask him to check? Or maybe I should stop looking and forget it

I'm not sure of this but I think that those carbs may have come with a sediment bowl and that is what you are looking at. I don't think those carbs or fuel system had a fuel filter and the sediment bowl was what they used instead. I remember the sediment bowls always bubbled and that what was nothing to worry about.

My 56 f-100 (272 Y-block) had a holly 2100 carb (motorcraft made by holly) that my dad just rebuilt. There is no glass on it. The glass is the sediment bulb on the fuel pump (on mine). There was no fuel filter. I have one to put inline though.

As far a hard to start...timing, plugs, wires, points and condenser?

Doc here,

Or Mis~Adjusted Choke?

May not be fuel at all..In addition to what was mentioned about tune up issues.....

How many miles do you have on this engine..?

Does it smoke?

Does it crank real quick like it has low compression? Do a compression test and see what you have..125 to 150 is good + / - 10% of each other.

Maybe the Timing chain (or Gears) are worn enough to cause problems..

Just thought I might add. Have you checked the battery? I know it sounds nuts, but mine was hard to start until I put a new one in (even with the carb rebuilt). Apparently it was ok, but on the weak side.
