holley problems

hello everyone,

I have a holley 750 dp and it seems that the squirter mechanism that pumps the gas into the carb is not working correctly. It is fine when the gas pedal is pushed in but when it is let out the squirter part keeps spay some gas causing a real rough idle. I have heard that there was some kind of ball in the mechanism that may have been taken out for racing or just maybe defected. Has this happened to anyone before? What can I do? If I have to take it to a shop does anyone know of a good carb shop is San Diego.

Thanks

Lilbandit

If you remove the nozzle there should be either a ball and spring or a pointed metal needle below in the well.

it sounds to me like the linkage adjustment on the front of the carb is too tight you should have .010 of an inch or so between the accelerator pump arm and the adjustment bolt

That adjustment needs to be made with the linkage wide open, just incase you didn't know that already. Like datsun350 said, .010 to .015" should be good.

There might be some confusion here but the adjustment that I am referring to needs to be made at closed throttle. the linkages need to have .010 free play at closed throttle or the vibration + tension of the linkages cause squirter seeping leading to your problem. Basically if there is any tension on the accelerator pump arm when the vehicle is idling the additional vibration from the vehicle is enough to cause seepage

The clearance at w.o.t is in the same place but it is to ensure that you don't have a linkage bind issue and will not be free play it will be additional travel wot adjustment

Sorry datsun, I assumed you were refering to the WOT adjustment when I saw the .010 spec. That is usually the most common adjustment I have had to make and I didn't know if lilbandit knew how to make the adjustment.

I`ve always adjusted mine so the arm is just nearly touching the pump, for the quickest squirt passable and never had any problem. Always felt better than .10..

You need to check that check valve under the squirter. Also check the float level.

hth.

Troy,
