Holley Street Avenger Power Valve

I'm running a Holley 670 Street Avenger on a 327 with a .480 lift cam and getting 10 inches of vacuum. The carb currently has a 6.5 power valve in it. It seems to run OK. Would it run better with a 4.5 power valve?

read the manual that holley gave you and divide your manifold vacuum by 2...The correct power valve is going to be a number 5, so a 4.5 is going to work correctly...

Also, look into the secondaries to see if they are starting to open,,,,A good indication is if the motor is loading up from the secondaries starting to open.

BTW a 6.5 power valve is for a motor with 12 inches of vacuum or more...Your at 10/

Why would the secondaries have anything to do w/the power valve

& why would they be opening when you "look" at them ??

I attach a vacuum gauge to the engine and run the hose up to the windshield and drive around and watch the vacuum. A 6.5 PV starts to open at 7.5 and is fully open at 6.5. The weight of the vehicle, the gearing and engine torque, all contribute to the need for low vacuum/high load fuel enrichment.

thanks for the correction...I suffered a stroke not long ago and sometimes my thinking comes out wrong, as I did here...I should have said that the power valve opens sooner if the vacuum is lower than 12" of vacuum...Therefore, if 10" of vacuum divided by 2= a power valve of 5, or in this case 4.5 would work....If he notices the carb loading up with the 6.5 power valve and 10 " of vacuum, then that is an indication to lower the power valve....I hate have strokes....Thanks for the correction....n I hope no-one has what I have had at such a young age...37 was my first stroke..

My bummer is, I know what I want to say, it is just that the words can't come out right sometimes and I get confused, like I did here...My last stroke, my boss noticed that I was talking backwards...I was an electrician in the trades and the day it happened I was up on a ladder about 6 ft, or so ....Thank god he was there...Normally, we walk through a house and lay it out, then pull in the home runs...Then he takes off and leaves me the rest to do on my own...He knew that I had strokes in the past, so thank god he knew what was going on and helped me get off the ladder...He laid me off that day and that stroke took 8 mths to heal from...I am medically retired now due to various medical problems with my internal organs...But from time to time still have mini-strokes...Doc thinks I have had up to 10 mini-strokes, or more at a time...
