Home made air compressor muffler

Tried an experiment on making a air compresser muffler,it has worked great cut more than half of noise down. Used 14ga crs about 7 inches square,16 inches long, with 1 inch pipe nipples welded on. If you look at any cutaway inside view of a muffler has dividers and sound champers. I think I look at a flow master kind of pattern of that. Also added a piece of mesh steel or perforated (a bunch of 1/8 inch holes)added that in too in the middle. Something to try if you want to quiet the garage noise down some. http://hotrodders.com/gallery/data/5...41-med.JPG?545

I ran my air intake outside the garage and was amazed at how quiet the compressor itself actually is.

my compressor sounds like a ford 8n at 800 rpm; a really quiet (for an air compressor or any (older) engine) paputpapapapapapapapaput. It's homeade. An ancient 1.75Hp 1750Rpm westinghouse motor turns an ancient store refridgeration unit compressor, and that blows into an ancient speedaire tank. It only pumps 80 psi though.

I like that muffler idea though.
