Hood hinge problems. Help!

Hey everyone!
Well im just working on resoring my 1953 ford sedan and the hood hinges are shot. They open and close, but with extreme lateral movement. When the hood is open and in the process of closing it shifts extreme right, then when even lower shifts extreme left. When its closed, its still horribly alligned and wont latch. I can bend the hinges all around by moving the hood and get it to latch for a few seconds, but then it pops up. I am in college and have a tiny budget so i cannot afford those fancy hood hinge kits. I am a mediocer welder if that helps!
