At first glance I would say no as it is pretty rough, and not a very intricate detailed ornament... unless it is off something really rare. Any idea what make or model year it came off of??

If he offers you $900, I'd take it. It is cool, but unless it's for a high dollar senior car or something rare, I doubt it's worth anything near that price.

On American Pickers the other day, they had a mint one off a 26 Pontiac (I think)., that they valued at 600 or so.....I doubt if yours is worth much.

I'm sure there are others, but Chevy and Chrysler used eagle or falcon ornaments on some models.
It's got to be mid thirties to mid fifties, judging by the curve the original hood would have. If you google different descriptions, then click on images at the top of the first page, you will get many pages of pictures. |

I do not know what it is worth. The guy called me and told me he saw a show were they were looking for a hood ornament and the same thing I had went for 900. I do not know what it is worth nor is he trying to buy it. I just never seen the kind of hood ornament before and especially on a k5 blazer/jimmy.

When I come across something like that I do some research. I do know one thing, put it on eBay and leave out ONE key word and it isn't found and you get jack for it. Put in the right key words and it could make a difference of hundreds or thousands of dollars.
I put a rusty old motorcycle horn on there once. I had no idea what it was and simply listed all the names of old motorcycles. I did a search for vintage motorcycle names, I didn't just go by my memory or what I THOUGHT it was. It ended up being from a 1948 Indian Chief and I got $450 for it. I am a regular ebay seller and I have sold a lot of things that I honestly thought I would be throwing in the trash when the auction ended and there were no bid. Many of these things went for HUNDREDS of dollars. I am never surprised, I do some home work, do the best job listing it with the best key words and the LEAST amount of BS words "Nice shape" "Good chrome" "Cool looking" any BS like that out of the title. The title is for ONE THING and ONE THING ONLY, to pack in as many key words that someone may be SEARCHING with! That is the ONLY reason for the title. You never know what you could have there, you honestly never know. Without any exaggeration what so ever, without KNOWING, it could literally be worth $10,000. I'm being kinda crazy I admit, but it could be from a GM Motorama show car, who knows? Until you do some home work, we are all peeing in the wind. Brian |

Yeah your right man! I never thought of that at all man! I just do not know much about it at all and have searched high and low since my buddy told me about it with no luck. If anyone can point me in some direction that would be great.
Thanks |

I usually find "Mystery" hood ornaments on this page: http://www.taillightking.com/Hood_Ornaments.htm
I couldn't find it. I will look some more. What you see on American Pickers, take with a grain of salt. If it weren't staged somewhat, no one would watch it. They almost always pay low retail. I've a couple of buddy's in the business, they like the show, but also know a few of the dealers that have been visited, things are moved around, salted, if you know what I mean. I love the history of the show and seeing things I normally wouldn't get a chance to see.

That show is entertainment, pure and simple. I see many, many things on there that I question let alone KNOW is wrong. But all in all it is an entertaining show that I regularly watch. I think the guys are pretty solid gentlemen and I enjoy the show.
As I said before if one doesn't KNOW what it is they are peeing in the wind. When I see the crazy numbers for stuff! Look at an air cleaner, a 69 Camaro two barrel air cleaner, what's it worth, five bucks? How about a 69 Z crossram air cleaner, that is it worth, $2500? How about a 53 Chevy tail light, what is it worth, ten bucks? While a 53 Corvette one is worth about $400. How about a complete 32 Oldsmobile sedan dashboard, what's it worth, 20-30 bucks? What is a 32 Ford Three window dash worth, $1500-$2500? Just checked eBay completed auctions. Similar vintage hood ornaments have sold for everywhere from $1 to $590. This is SOLD for not asking, in the dept there were a few in the $2000 range that didn't sell. But there were a heck of a lot that went for $300 to $500, a LOT of them. Until you find out what it is and do some research into it's value you have only a wild guess which is worthless. Brian |
