Hood ornament and other confusion

Hi there. I am trying to identify a couple of things. One is (I believe) a hood ornament, but after spending the past few hours trying to research it to no avail, I decided it would probably be better to ask some experts. Here's a photo of it:

There's another item that I have absolutely no clue about, other than that it is from a pontiac. Here's a photo:

I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks so much!

The bottom one looks to be a late 30s to 40s pontiac chief / chieftain grill emblem, but i could be wrong. The top one i have seen but can't remember what it was on. Do a search pontiac emblems or pontiac chief emblems see what comes up. Guess it could have came off the rear of the car also.
JMO.

name that ornament!!

Vince: You may very well be right about that top photo being an Oldsmobile item..ala "Rocket 88?" or somethin'. I've come to realize, though, that just about every manufacturer in the '50s used stylized airplanes on some models or other Buick...Ford...Hudson..Nash...the list goes on.
We'll keep looking....and someone out there should be able to definitely ID it for us.

A 1956 Mercury is the jet looking thing. Here's a cool website:

Sorry about that, here's a better page:

On the right side of the page, click Hood Ornaments.
