Hood pins verse stock hood latch

I was wondering if you guy's use both the stock hood latch and hood pins or just hood pins When I disassembled my car I misplaced my stock hood latch. Just wondering if the extra safety of having the stock latch was necessary ? Jack

I've used just hood pins before, w/no problems- you just have to remember to use them!

Inevitably you will forget them one day though, and the hood will only (if you're lucky) fly up and block your vision until you get your bearings and peek under or look around it.

If it come up at any real speed, the hinges can be sprung and the hood bent.

Years ago there were cast pot metal pins sold w/some cheap hood pin sets. There are junk- period!

I use both on my off road 4x4. Never have enough security with just one or the other. Hood pins by themselves will eventually squeek like a mouse having an orgasm.

On a car used at the track we remove the stock latch and just use hood pins..much more dependable to keep the hood closed. the guys on street cars keep the stock latch for the locking feature...
