hood springs

Hi-I have a 1948 Chevy-2-door sedan-what is the best(safest) way to install the hood springs??-Thanks-Roy

I my memory serves me that Chevy has a regular old wound wire spring. If that is the case, THE BEST way to install it is with a chain with a hook on the end. You can make a hook out of a link, just weld the last link to the chain and then cut it open so you can hook it on to the spring.

Hook the spring onto the hinge (while it is mounted in the car or a vice) and then with your weak hand, just hold it there with a little tension. Then using your dominant hand holding the chain to just hook the hook onto the other end of the spring. Give the chain a nice steady pull and you will EASILY stretch the spring far enough to get it on the hinge.

I have heard of all kinds of other ways, NONE are as safe and easy as this, give it a try.
