Hooking up timing lite

The battery is in the trunk so can I attach the timing lite to the alternator for positivie and a ground to the motor or body? If not what would be the next best way to make work. Thanks.

Yes, its fine. Just be care full you don't short against a ground point when hooking to the alternator.
