This maybe should have been in 'off topic' but it does involve a car accident... *shrug*

I don't remember if I've ever mentioned it here, but I work for a horse and carriage business on the weekends. We do the horse and carriage thing, mostly for weddings.

Well, we had a late night wedding Saturday that started like any other happy wedding night. Unfortunately it didn't end so happily...

We were rear-ended by a drunk driver. Myself and Clint - who owns the carriage service - were thrown forward over the front of the carriage and run over by it. The bride and groom in back went over the back and fell out.

Clint was run over across his chest, banged his arm up pretty good and almost cut his liver in half. The doc told him today before he was released from the hospital that he was VERY close to being killed. He's lucky he didn't bleed to death.

I got run over across my back and because the guy hit the left rear wheel and it shattered, the axle dropped down and I got hung under the axle and drug for 10-15 feet. Once I was free of the carriage, I knew I was in the road and walked over to the sidewalk to gather my wits. I saw Clint still in the road holding his head, he hollered and asked me if I was alright, I said yeah. Then called his wife and headed up the road after the horses.

I walked over half a mile until I found where some guys at the Conference Center had stopped the horses. I got them unhitched from the carriage and tied back at the trailer before my adrenaline rush dropped and I almost passed out.

I was in the hospital 3 days and received 2 units of blood. The only part of me that is not bruised - thank God - is my abdomen. The transplanted kidney wasn't hurt in the event. It seems to have all been on my back. My right leg is swollen 3 times normal size with various road rash and extensive bruising.

I'm grateful to be alive. Physically I'm ok for the shape I'm in. Emotionally its been hitting me. When I close my eyes I can still hear the impact, the wheel drum dragging the asphalt, the horses hooves and my own muffled screams.

The horses are ok. They've got some injuries to their rear legs from where the tongue of the carriage broke and it ran up on them. They were such good boys, as they galloped up the road they stayed in their lane, didn't cross the traffic and were headed for the trailer. They missed the entrance of the conference center parking lot, and turned at the next side road trying to get to the trailer.

As for the guy that hit us, he jumped out of his car and took off running. There's a warrant for his arrest and I've heard there was an open container in the vehicle. The officer I spoke with today said the guy had called his pregnant wife that evening and said he had been in an accident and wouldn't be home. She hasn't seen him since.

So that's what I've been doing for the past week.

BBB... Glad nothing worse happened to you. You have been thru some tough times dealing with your health. Take all the time you need to recover. I have discovered diet and exercise actually work.. who woda thought!

Man, that's insane how you're just riding along enjoying the night and boom, a f***ing moron flies out of nowhere and almost kills you guys. At first I was kind of joking about you going to whoop that guy's bootay who did that to you but after hearing this, yeaaa I'mmmm thinking you really do need to Happy you're doing ok, we're thinkin of ya and more importantly, don't forget to go after that guy

Do anything you can to occupy you mind leave the TV & the radio going at all times to create background noise.

Glad to hear that you're recovering, BBB. I hope they nail the SOB, and throw away the key. Thank God you weren't more seriously injured. Wow Mel! It's great to hear that you are fine, Clint is fine, the newlyweds are fine (betcha they won't forget that wedding night ), and that the horses are fine. In the blink of an eye, it could've been so much worse for all involved. As was posted earlier, I hope they nail that drunk to the wall.

Thanks ya'll. It was definitely quite an experience I hope to never repeat. They've got some leads on the guy, but haven't found him yet.

I've been on all 4 of the local news stations now. And I'm tired. Who knew being a celebrity was so much trouble.
