Did you or someone else forget to re-install the lower dipstick guide tube back into the block after machining??
It goes in the dipstick hole first, before the upper tube is pressed in. The lower tube guides the stick down into the pan and keeps it from coming into contact with the spinning crank. Without the lower tube the crank will hit the stick and break it off on the lower end.
