horsepower and torque
I am restoring 1955 chevy, pulling out the original 265 and replacing it with a 350. I do not want to overkill on power but I do want something mild to medium.
recommendations on HP and torque
Take a look at the Chevy crate motors. Best bang for the buck. Several HP levels available.
I might be thinkin' 375-400 horsepower, 425+ lbs/ft of torque with 9.0:1 static compression ratio, stock converter, mild cam (204-212 intake duration @0.050", 110 LSA), RPM intake, 750 carb, 1 5/8" long-tube headers and 3.50 rear gear. Just a real nice cruiser. I really, really like these heads. They're inexpensive and they work. This is for one bare head....
Then buy one valve kit (fills 2 heads)...
One guide plate kit (fills 2 heads)...
And one rocker stud kit (fills 2 heads)....

Use a Howards composite distributor gear (will outlast a bronze gear 3 to 1)...

Horsepower and torque
We're just about finished building a 350 SBC using the 170cc RHS cast iron head. The intake flows well after a little work (265cfm @ ).600") but the short turn on the exhaust had to be modified. If I remember the exhaust flowed about 210cfm after we worked on the short turn.
This engine will be a "mule" motor to go on the dyno for R&D purposes.
Are the HP & TQ figures from the engine described here?
