Hot 388 stroker in front of stock converter

Hey guys I'm kinda on a budget with my car.

I just finished and fired my 388ci small block. It has a comp xe284.

For the time being since funds are tight the car has a 700r4 with a stock stall converter (from 87 camaro).

Right now I have the car idling at about 900-1000 rpm. I havent drove the vehicle yet but when I drop it into drive the rpm's drop to about 500 and the car shakes and almost stalls out.

I know this converter is wayyyy to tight however do you think it will work for a couple of months.

Is there anything I can do to better the situation?

I ran that cam in a 355 and had the same problem.......you have to keep your foot on the gas while stopped........also had to ride the gas to get it to stop, only made about 8 inches of vacuum. Good luck.

You better run good quality universal joints. I ran a car like that for a little while and kept busting ujoints untill I bought a set of heavy duty ones. When you put it in gear it would slam into gear. jtyler

Unless it has a monster cam or a vacuum leak you should be able to get it to hold a decent idle. If it makes good power the converter is the least of your worries. The internals of the trans just can't handle the torque a stroker makes.
