Hot MSD Coil
i just installed an MSD blaster 2 coil and MSD wires on an 86 dodge W-250 4x4 with a 5.9L (360) engine. i was just wondering why the coil was heating up to the point where you almost cant touch it. is that normal? or did i cross wires somewhere? it starts up and runs fine the coil just gets hot. plus i installed a new ballast resistor. thanks for the help in advance guys....

They do heat quite much. Every one I've had does.

ok cool. i've never really felt a coil after a cars been running so i dont know. one other thing... i left off the radio noise capacitor.... what effects will that have?

well... the stock coil didnt get near as hot as this MSD is getting

Doc here,
 The Coil will run warm..Consider it is sinking about 20 to 40 amps to ground each time the trigger pulse goes low.. You MIGHT want to check to see if a Ballast resistor is required on the primary of the MSD coil for your application. If it is, and you don't have one, the coil will die a premature death... Doc

yeah. it does require a resistor, and MSD gave me a new one so i replaced the old one with the new one just to be safe. Thanks Doc
